Kathy is a member of the Mozilla Web of Things project team. Mozilla’s open source implementation puts people first, protecting user privacy and security, while promoting industry interoperability. Additional benefits of an open IoT framework are that it enables ethical use audits, promotes faster innovation, and catalyzes social good projects, including equity in STEAM education and opportunities for fairer distribution of IoT economic benefits globally.
Come learn about Mozilla’s Project Things initiative. It is an open source implementation aimed at promoting a decentralized, and W3C-standardized, Web of Things framework for managing IoT device data. Mozilla’s implementation puts people first, protecting user privacy and security, while promoting industry interoperability. The tutorial will demonstrate how to set up a private IoT gateway, how to command things using local voice (no cloud!), and how to to program your own MCU hardware by following online tutorials that take advantage of open source “webthing” libraries.
