Jack Aboutboul is a long time member of the Linux, Open Source, and Free Software community. Jack brings to Codenotary over 20 years of technology, community, and developer outreach expertise. His previous roles include Community Architect at Red Hat for Fedora and its associated projects, Developer Program Manager at the popular open source eCommerce platform Magento (acquired by PayPal) and an early member of the Developer Evangelism team at cloud communications powerhouse Twilio, and CTO of Energizer’s Connect IoT platform. He is currently the community manager for the popular CentOS replacement AlmaLinux.

Jack is passionate about education, technology, open source, IoT, and enabling developers to build the best, most secure software possible through great developer experiences. He lives in New York City but can be found at a developer event near you.

The beginning of any open source project is always filled with “what-ifs,” particularly with the ambitious goal of being as transparent as possible and putting the OS ownership, Intellectual Property, and the project’s direction into the hands of the community. AlmaLinux has done just that this last year, and continues to move forward in a positive direction while maintaining a stance of “all community, all the time.”

In this talk, I’ll give an overview of the last year in AlmaLinux and talk about the highs and lows, milestones reached, lessons learned, how we grew our community and how they helped us to grow, scaling out to match them, maintaining continuous, fast acting responsiveness to the community’s requests, community governance, open source governance in general, and everything community in AlmaLinux. I’ll also look forward to what we can and will do for the community moving forward and ways that we can continue to improve, so that we can all improve.
