Presented by:

Caroline Dikibo is a Web Engineer, Civic Hacker, and Associate Scientist in training at Crimson Vista, a cybersecurity firm in Baltimore. She's also an NCAA champion and coaches fencing in her free time.
Budgets, Housing, and Hurricanes. What do all of these things have in common? Civic Hacking. These were local problems that were tackled by a village of coding warriors.
This talk is about the lessons I learned from Civic Hacking. This year, I traveled across the state of Texas to participate Civic Hacking.
In this talk, I will discuss overreaching themes before talking about specific projects that came out of Austin, giving citizens exposure to city budgeting with Award-winning Budget Party, and Houston, tackling Section 8, and then I will finish out the talk with current event-driven civic hacking that led to the Hurricane app creating effort covered by Forbes.
