One of the most powerful uses for Linux is for server infrastructure. This can be utilized to greatly improve the functionality and security of your home network. In this presentation I will discuss the many uses that I have found for different Linux applications on my Ubuntu server at home: file sharing, virtualization, DNS filtering, private VPNs, managed DHCP, gaming servers, and https web-hosting among others.
This presentation will provide an overview for many resources that an intermediate to advanced Linux user will be able to utilize. It will detail the pitfalls and struggles that I went through in setting up and tweaking my current server (an Acer laptop with external storage) and some of the best practices that I learned along the way.
